Outside of the infidelity plotline, this first inclusion of fiction in my #53booksin52weeks goal was...nauseating. Not because it was poorly written, but it was just identifiable...in ways, I don’t always get from fiction. I usually like to get lost in fantasy worlds in fiction...ANYWAY...
The main storyline follows a couple...who take on a home renovation...and communication takes a tailspin, with elements of mental health struggles...and the symptoms are paired with unsupported coping skills.
I was not pleased to find myself identifying with the stress of the character getting lost in the planning and execution of the renovation projects. Her stress was palpable in sections, feeling the experience of being alone in seeing big decisions through...and hoping to drive through the overall project, to bring an end get some peace for the self but also the coupleship.
It was also validating to see another character, loosely based on real-life, go through the struggles I have...and in her loneliness, I found myself not alone, not unique, and that was enough of what I needed from this read. It was also nice to see someone desperate to change the circumstances but be literally stuck in the reality of not being able to snap her fingers to change the circumstances as fast as was needed.
What I also, was needed a story that came to a close...it wasn’t just a dump of tips, information, research, or share experiences.
Spoiler- I think this is am important co-read with Caleb...so I will be regifting it to him for the holiday! I will post an update when I get his feedback. #53books52weeks #reflection #aslongasitsperfect #homestress #mentalhealthinmarriage #bettertogether #communication #yourjourneyisthedestination #buildalifenotaresume
